The Monterey Bay Sports League is committed to bringing together diverse cultures of all age groups in the Monterey County. Our goal is to build integrity and encourage self esteem in a friendly competitive environment through team play while simultaneously building camaraderie and lasting relationships through the exercise of body as well as mind. Our Goal is to provide the county of Monterey, a youth soccer league and promote good sportsmanship, team work, and integrity. We would like to build and develop better soccer players in the area. Our main focus is the youth: we would like to improve their skills and abilities both as a person and soccer player. We would also like to provide a guidance to keep the youth away from negative influences. We would also ensure a mind set to help develop players that would like to play at the collegiate level.
The Monterey Bay Sports League was established in 1992. Its base of operation has been in the city of Seaside, California. MBSL was founded with the purpose to provide the local community of the Monterey County with an organized structure to play the game of soccer.
In March 2009, MBSL was reborn under the leadership of Dan Priano, Francella Group, LLC., Christian Ramos, and Carlos Velazquez. Along with others, Mr. Priano’s volunteer work and his expansive experience in hospitality and business management led to the complete re-structure of the league itself. This paved the way for accessibility to better soccer fields, investing in new and better equipment, employing better referee officials, and in 2012 brokered health insurance coverage for all players. Currently the league has over 20 adult men’s and women’s teams and 50 youth teams.
In 2011, the league took another step for the better when it affiliated itself with Unites States Soccer Federation (USSF) and California Soccer Association North (CSAN). MBSL has established itself as one of the premier soccer league in the Monterey County and this has been recognized as it has been subject to invitations from state-wide soccer tournaments based on its organizational structure and commitment to its mission. The league has gradually established a recognizable reputation in just a short time.
In 2013, the league took yet another by adding the first youth program since the formation of the league. Christian Ramos, Vice President, with the help of Girls Scouts of the Central Coast and parent volunteers started the development of this program with a vision that it will become one the counties best soccer institution.
MBSL relies heavily on countless hours of volunteer work. Additionally, its success is also in part to entities such as the Monterey Peninsula College, Pacific Grove Unified School District, Santa Barbara Bank and Trust, Slade, Quilty and Associates, and Post Ranch Inn for their willingness to work with MBSL in order to better serve our purpose.
Monterey Bay Sports League representatives, team owners and coaches have opened many doors for the teenagers and young adults playing for our teams – whom are the men and women in our community – to be given an opportunity to participate in the world’s most popular sport of soccer in a friendly yet competitive way.
